The Working Hub and Relaxing Centre
of a Family Home in London
The Detail
The working hub of the kitchen displays Simon’s innate understanding of how modern kitchens function. Storage, preparation, wet and cooking areas are all compact and clearly defined. This ensures the maximum efficiency for the cook as everything is intuitively to hand including pull-out waste bins and dishwashers which are cleverly concealed.
To the left of the electric hob and extractor hood, a bank of built-in Miele appliances is conveniently located together comprising a coffee machine, dual combination ovens and steam oven. Oak, burr oak and cream lacquer on the low-level cupboards and two larder cupboards (which cleverly house the main fridge-freezer as well as a pull-out full height spice rack) evoke the traditional values of a country kitchen but in a contemporary and luxurious style.
A natural demarcation between the boundary of the working kitchen and the relaxing and dining zones is created with the floating island and curved breakfast bar, the latter encouraging greater interaction between the family and friends during meal preparation as well as the meals themselves.
Simon also designed and built furniture for the study and lounge at the client’s home.
