A Family Home in Bedfordshire

The Brief

The house nestles on a steep hillside in a Bedfordshire village near Woburn and the client wanted to modernise and update the dated, cramped interior. The main entrance was at the top of the house, along with the old kitchen, dining room and second lounge.

“Working with the client’s architect, we wanted to open up not just the rooms, but the old flat roof as well. The new clear glass angled roof floods the area with light and it therefore became an obvious choice to make the whole scheme open plan. The challenge of the room proportions was met by creating a central island that defined a formal and informal eating area at either end.”
