A Converted Mill in Wiltshire
The Vision
The kitchen needed to deliver all the features listed by the client, but also integrate into the rest of the downstairs space. Simon designed a huge curved dividing bar which joined up the harsher angles and avoided having to be squared up on the irregularly shaped floor area. It is mirrored by a smaller bar opposite and the space between the two cleverly guides visitors out of the room.
“As an industrial building, robust materials felt right. Oak is the traditional solid hardwood of such projects and also of country homes. It brings the right balance of colour, texture and warmth. Burr oak and burr walnut were added for a luxurious finish.”
The result is a truly practical, beautiful and social space. Simon’s design won the inaugural BIDA/idFX Kitchen Designer of the Year, 2004.
